About

aleas is the second recording project by Des Visages, captured live at Dijktheater (Amsterdam) on 8 March 2026, and mixed and mastered by Nicolás Vera. The album emerged from the duo’s desire to explore improvisation in its most direct sense, following the logic of chance from the very beginning: the encounter of both musicians in Amsterdam, the intimacy of the space, and the raw quality of the chosen setup.

The title derives from the Latin alea (“dice” or “chance”), reflecting the project’s commitment to unpredictability. The album features three improvisations, alea II, alea III and alea V, where every decision unfolds entirely in real time, allowing the music to reveal itself through the act of playing.

Each piece is accompanied by a video work documenting the duo’s ongoing exploration of lighting and real-time video projection. In aleas, lighting was programmed to behave randomly in speed, intensity and colour, deliberately contrasting with earlier works where light responded directly to sound.

BIOGRAPHY

Des Visages is a Europe-based duo formed by Chilean musicians Jorge Care and César Vidal. Working with saxophone and live electronics, they approach improvisation as composition in real time: musical form develops through listening, interaction and the continuous transformation of acoustic and electronic material.

Prepared saxophone, synthesizers and live processing form the basis of their instrumental practice. Their setup includes controllers and Push 3, alongside Ableton Live, MAX, TouchOSC, Beam and TouchDesigner. Texture, rhythm and the spatial qualities of sound guide the development of each piece.

Light and image are integral to the performances. Concert lighting, at times responsive to sound, works alongside projection, generated visuals, poetic texts and video mapping. This theatrical dimension extends a practice rooted in electroacoustic music and informed by the dialogue between Peter Evans and Sam Pluta.

Their self-titled debut EP was recorded and released in Geneva in 2025. It was followed by aleas, recorded in Amsterdam and presented during their 2026 European tour, with concerts in Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, England and Denmark.

Each performance is shaped by the space, the audience and the decisions the musicians make together.
